Tales from a Bruised Mind

I’ve been wanting to write an original song for years now. A couple of years ago, I began writing some little snippets here and there, mainly on the piano, but I never went anywhere further with it.

In fact, I have largely forgotten most of those original musical clips. Intensive periods of stress and anxiety long term will do that..

But, I’ve also been recently inspired by the original works (and soon to be album) by my big brother, Ben. So I thought now is a great time to give it all another shot.

To celebrate my new book, my next project will come in the form of a new song, written exclusively by me.

What’s it about? Well, me, but also my life up until this point, my past traumas, my hospital visits and more.

Here’s some of the lyrics from what I have so far.

Tell me, please tell me, why is this so?
That I struggle inside day by day 
And nobody knows 

Take me, take me back to a time
Where i’m riding on my tractor 
With nothing on my mind

I am writing the song on guitar for starters, and will likely work it out for piano, too, but I’m using an alternate open D major tuning for my guitar. Essentially, the string structure is DADF#AD. Pretty cool, right? It allows the guitar to ring out really nicely. Try it out for yourself one day.
